Uniform of Junior Ranks

24th Regiment of foot

1879 Zulu War

Chris is wearing an Other Ranks Foreign service Tunic typical of the type worn in hot climates. The tunic has five buttons down the front and does not have the white piping down the front. The Home service tunic of this period is very similar but with 6 buttons and white piping.

Webbing is the 1871 Valise equipment with the extra greatcoat/ blanket straps over his shoulders. Bread bag and oliver pattern waterbottle. Martini Henry rifle.

Foreign service helmet stained with tea as was the norm in Zululand
